Ghanaian Curriculum

Basic education in Ghana is both free and mandatory between the ages of four and fifteen. It begins with two years of kindergarten, followed by five years of primary school. Basic education ends after three years of junior secondary school upon completion of the Basic Education Certificate Exam. This exam includes both English and math. After basic education, students can move on to three years of secondary school or vocational school, where they study a core curriculum, which still includes math and English, and some elective courses. For those wishing to follow the vocational track, they can either take vocational electives at secondary school or go straight to a vocational school. At the end of secondary education, students then take the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Exam.

Excel in English

Most schools in Ghana teach their classes in the English language, and all textbooks are English. For students who didn’t learn English as a first language, this could present some barriers.
